Plumbing the depths of the Cross of Christ

"We never move on from the cross, only into a more profound understanding of the cross."
David Prior, quoted in CJ Mahaney The Cross Centred Life

For the last 4 Sundays we've been taking a close look at the cross of Christ, each week considering a different dimension of what God accomplished there (if you missed any, you can catch up on any of the talks here).

But really we've only just scratched the surface. The Cross is unfathomably deep. As Paul wrote to the Romans:

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!
Rom 11:33

So if you're longing now to know more of Cross - here are some good places to go next:

The Cross - by Andrew Sach and Steve Jeffery A tiny little book exploring this massive subject.

Cross Examined - by Mark Meynell A slightly bigger (but still pretty short) book that brilliantly examines the cross and its implications for us in a little more detail.

On Sunday we ran out of time to think much about how the cross reconciles us to each other, as well as to God. If you want to think more about that, have a listen to these past Emmanuel talks which deal entirely with that question:

Church - worth belonging to (Ephesians 2:11-22)

United for His Glory (Ephesians 4:1-6)
