Steak in Heaven?

The physical reality of the new heaven and the new earth seemed to be thing that most surprised people as we looked at Revelation 21:1-8 together yesterday (Westbury version of the talk available here). Is it right to be talking about the physical delight of enjoying a perfectly done steak there, or should we just be focused on the "spiritual" pleasures of being with our Father God forever? Well have a read of what your Father God promises you there:
'On this mountain the LORD Almighty will prepare a feast of rich foods for all peoples, a baquet of aged wine - the best of meats and the finest of wines.' Isaiah 25:6.
We're promised a great feast there. As we're promised (amongst many other things) great responsibilities too. In Jesus' Parable of the Ten Minas (Luke 19:11-27) this is what is said to the servant who has pleased his Master:
"Well done, my good servant!" his master replied. "Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charage of ten cities." Luke 19:17.
Part of God's world being re-created in perfection will be us returning to the role God gave us right back in the beginning - ruling if for him (see Genesis 1:28). Reigning - as his viceroys - over it. There will be plenty to do! And in doing all we do there, we will be forever worshipping the God who got us there - through the precious blood of his Son Jesus. So we'll experience this too:
'Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing:
"To him who sits on the throne nad to the Lamb be praise and honour and glory and power, for ever and ever!" Revelation 5:13
So expect some singing in the new creation. But also some steak. And some responsibilities. Expect the sort of continuity implied in Revelation 21:1-8. A new, updated version of the present earth - but with heaven, with God himself, wonderfully injected into the mix.

Want a foretaste now? Well have a look at this promotional video for the present Herm. Think how much more beautiful the new Herm will be. I look forward to seeing you there.
